What to Expect When Cruising the River Moselle

What to Expect When Cruising the River Moselle

Renowned as one of the most picturesque rivers the world, the Moselle stretches for a languid 340 miles from the Vosges Mountains of France to flow into the Rhine in Germany. Various sections have become extremely popular with barge holiday operators, not just for the magnificent scenery encountered along the way, but also for the many historical attractions and, of course, the wine.
The Route of the Moselle

From its elevated source at Ballon d'Alsace, the river passes through the spectacularly beautiful and historically significant French landscape of Lorraine, before forming part of the border of Luxembourg and Germany. On its path it takes in countless small towns, Alpine villages and wine-growing regions. Some of the more industrialised sections of the Moselle Valley are also used for transporting goods on large cargo ships. The river joins the Rhine at Koblenz, as its longest tributary. Since it was made entirely navigable in 1964, the river has become a very busy waterway, encompassing 14 locks and a dedicated shipping channel. As well as barge holiday operators, the traffic comprises large numbers of private vessels and commercial and cargo ships.

Attractions en Route

For those on a barge holiday, whatever section of the Moselle makes up the itinerary there are countless attractions to see from the water and on shore excursions. One of the most enchanting is Burg Eltz, a real-life fairytale castle set in its own lush forest. The medieval castle is immaculately preserved, having been in one family for more than 850 years. The interiors are bedecked with original tapestries, furnishings and artworks that have been curated with such attention and care they look like the centuries have simply passed them by. Set upon the peak of a huge craggy rock, Burg Eltz epitomises the concept of a fairytale castle.

For those passing through Trier (close to Luxembourg), exploring the Roman ruins of the oldest city in Germany is a must. Founded in 16 BC by the infamous Augustus, Trier was a vital trade and financial hub for the Roman Empire for more than four centuries. Today one can walk around its many archaeological attractions and take in sites like the Porta Nigra, the Hauptmarkt and the city's most iconic landmark, the magnificent UNESCO-listed Trierer Dom the oldest cathedral in Germany. The city is also famous for a very different reason as the birthplace of philosopher Karl Marx.

Fine Wine

Its not for nothing that wine is one of the most popular themes for barge holiday itineraries in this region of Germany and Luxembourg. The Moselle Valley is renowned for some of the world's finest Rieslings, which make up around 60% of its total production. The region provides the perfect conditions for this famous grape, with records indicating that it has been grown there since 1435. The Riesling has a distinct colour and flavour that aficionados attribute to its high acidity, and it has the ability to age well up to 40 years.

For history, scenery and the opportunity to immerse yourself in one of the most acclaimed wine regions in the world, cruising along the beautiful River Moselle is invariably a most memorable and enjoyable experience for travellers of any age.

Paul Newman is the Marketing and E-Systems Executive for European Waterways, the UK's most respected provider of all-inclusive, luxury barge holiday itineraries. Part of a team of experienced barging aficionados, Paul is first in line to endorse the perks of a slow-paced barge cruise to anyone looking for a unique holiday experience.

Walk This Way to Learn the Pedestrian Right of Way Laws

Walk This Way to Learn the Pedestrian Right of Way Laws

A pedestrian is killed every hour and 36 minutes in a car accident.

To keep yourself safe at busy intersections, you need to make sure you know the correct pedestrian right of way laws.

If you arent as familiar with these laws as you should be, take a look at this quick crosswalk guide.

Do Pedestrians Always Get the Right of Way at Crosswalks?

Your first thought is probably yes, and you are technically right. But the actual laws may be different than you think.

As it turns out, there are a bunch of different crossing laws. Each states laws differ slightly from every other state. Some states only require cars to yield to pedestrain right of way if the pedestrian is close enough to them in the street.

For example, cars in Massachusetts are only required to yield to a pedestrian if the pedestrian is 10 feet away from the vehicle.

In Louisiana, a driver doesnt have to stop driving unless the person crossing the road is on the same side of the road as them.

Only 28 out of 50 states are required to stop if a pedestrian is on any portion of the road.

Thats why, regardless of if you have the right of way or not, you should always make sure drivers see you before stepping into the street.

Is There a Right or Wrong Way to Use a Crosswalk?

This may seem pretty obvious, but dont step into the street unless the traffic signal says walk.

Even if it doesnt look like any cars are passing, there may be a left turn light on that could conflict with your path. If youre worried about the amount of time you have to cross the road, sometimes pressing the cross buttons give you more time.

If you think certain cars havent noticed you, hold up your arm to signal them before you cross the street. This will let them know you are planning to walk.

Is It Illegal to Cross the Street Outside of a Crosswalk?

Believe it or not, in most places, it is completely legal to cross the street outside of a sidewalk. However, this is very dangerous and should always be avoided if possible.

It is only illegal to cross the street outside a crosswalk if the nearest intersections on both sides of you are controlled intersections (meaning they have traffic lights).

If you need to cross the street outside of a crosswalk, give the right of way to motorists. They may not be expecting a person to cross, and it may be harder for them to see you.

Be Safe First

Whether you have the pedestrian right of way or not, you should always make safety your top priority.

Dont walk near streets while youre distracted. This may mean putting away your phone until you are in a safe location so you dont accidentally step into the street at the wrong time while youre looking down at your phone.

Now, if a car hits you when you are in a place that requires cars to stop when you are on the road, like L.A., get in touch with a Los Angeles pedestrian accident attorney. They will help you sort through the legal side of the accident.

In a place without sidewalks? Walk facing traffic. This makes it easier for you to see an approaching car and step off the road as they drive by.

Make sure you wear proper reflective clothing when youre walking after dark.

Be Careful with Your Pedestrian Right of Way

You should always cross the street at a crosswalk. Its not worth endangering yourself and others by crossing the street in unsafe locations.

The Truth About Egg Donors: 5 Myths Debunked

If youve been thinking about becoming an egg donor or using donated eggs to have a child, youve probably found a lot of contradicting information.

Its important to understand the process and know what to expect when it comes to such an important decision.

Lets debunk some popular misconceptions so you can be armed with the right information.

Myth 1: It is painful and uncomfortable to donate eggs.

During the preparatory period before the egg donation takes place, donors must inject follicle stimulating hormones.

There can be some side effects, including a headache, upset stomach, and cold-like symptoms. The majority of the time, these effects are mild and short-lived.

Concerning the actual procedure where the eggs are retrieved, there is no surgical incision, it rarely takes longer than 15 minutes, and the donor is lightly sedated.

As with the hormones, women report only mild side effects. If you get some over-the-counter pain meds at the drugstore, you should feel fine.

Heres the bottom line: there are some mild side effects you could experience as a donor, but most women report little to no pain.

Myth 2: Donating eggs will hurt my fertility.

There are a couple of common misconceptions that contribute to this myth.

One is that donating eggs will deplete your egg storage.

Women are born with hundreds of thousands of eggs. During the donation procedure, the number of eggs harvested is the number that a woman naturally produces during ovulation.

What does this mean? It means that you would only be donating the number you would naturally lose that month anyway.

Another misconception is that the hormones you take can hurt your fertility.

This is also false: the hormones you take as a donor are similar to your natural hormones, and will not cause infertility.

Myth 3: Donating eggs is detrimental to my health.

There have been claims that donating eggs can lead to breast or ovarian cancer.

But according to recent research, theres no convincing evidence that egg donation causes cancer.

Myth 4: Anyone can be an egg donor, even someone who is uneducated or sick.

Donors go through a screening process in order to become donors and ensure the eggs donated are of good quality.

Some of the common requirements for donors are:

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
Have a body mass index lower than 29
Be in their 20s
Have good physical and mental health
Are a non-smoker who doesnt use drugs

Depending on the clinic, there may be other requirements pertaining to personal and family history of cancer, heart disease, and psychiatric conditions.

Myth 5: Egg donors only want money.

While there is a financial component to being an egg donor, money is by no means the only motivator.

Many people consider donating eggs so they can help those who are infertile to start a family. It can be immensely gratifying to help someone in need to have a child.

Bottom Line

Choosing to donate eggs or use an egg donor is a big decision, but it can also be extremely rewarding.

Hopefully, this post has given you a better and more accurate understanding of egg donation.

If you have any thoughts, opinions, or experiences related to egg donation, feel free to leave a comment!

The 5 Most Famous Escorts of All Time

The 5 Most Famous Escorts of All Time

If Game of Thrones has taught us anything, its that prostituting yourself can lead to ruling the world.

This is true in the real world, too. Our history is full of famous escorts whove become household names.

Here are 5 people who turned tricks for money, even though their names are more mainstream than Coca-Cola.

Heidi Fleiss: The Queen of Famous Escorts

She is the most famous madame of all time. Or at least her client list was the most famous.

When she started telling her story, few people were surprised when she outed famous slime like Mickey Rourke and Charlie Sheen.

However, things were different in 2016 when she sold her black book. Her book alleged that the man who crafted your childhood, George Lucas, was a client. So was Johnny Depp.

Calamity Jane

This part of the famous gunslingers life was really downplayed on the HBO hit Deadwood. And we thank the creators dearly for that. They focused more on her life as a gunfighter, professional gambler and profane piss-tank.

She was also known to turn some tricks as a means of making money back in the day. Sort of a pioneer among our list of famous escorts.

Marilyn Monroe

Yes, one of the most famous sex symbols of all time is rumoured to have spent some time in the sex trade. She was an escort girl for the rich and powerful.

By all accounts, Hollywood in the 50s and 60s was an even dirtier place than it is today. Most of the famous actresses were also secretly famous escorts.

But its a bit more surprising when you consider how she did afterward. Were talking about one of the most celebrated beauties of all time and the icon of glamour for that era. She also (allegedly) bedded a US President and Mickey Mantle.

Russell Brand

The former Mr. Katie Perry had a rough past, as hell be the first to tell you. Now, many are debating how many details of his years before super-stardom are made up and how many actually happened.

However, Russ has gone on the record saying that while he was going in and out of rehab, he was forced to work as a male prostitute.

Hes now got an estimated net worth of about 15 million dollars. So as long as he has a savings account, he presumably wont return to that lifestyle.

Kim Kardashian

Deal with it, Kanye fans. Not only is she the most famous porn star in the world, she is also one of the most famous escorts.

Apparently her family really, really wanted her to bag a baller of any sort. Her services were offered to the Knicks Danilo Gallinari (now a Clipper).

In return, the Knick would get sex and he was told (by her family) it would be good for his career and that he would garner lots of media exposure. They were basically pimping her out to anyone who could dunk.

Later she would famously marry NBAer Kris Humphries and promptly destroy his thriving career.

Steve Jobs the Ultimate Intrapreneur and Entrepreneur

Steve Jobs the Ultimate Intrapreneur and Entrepreneur

By Dr. Howard Edward Haller

Steve Jobs is well-known as a successful and innovative Entrepreneur. But by his own definitive published statement, Jobs was both an Intrapreneur and Entrepreneur! Technology available for the masses was material improved by the creativity and innovation of Steve Jobs.

Steve Jobs, Apple's Chairman, was specifically helpful in popularizing the term "intrapreneurship." In a September 30, 1985 "Newsweek" article Jobs said, "The Macintosh team was what is commonly known as intrapreneurship... a group of people going, in essence, back to the garage, but in a large company."

Earlier that year, the February 4, 1985 TIME Magazines article, Here come the Intrapreneurs discussed the intrapreneurial spirit. The article included the creation of Apple, Saturn within General Motors, as well as intrapreneurship ventures within AT&T, Data General, DuPont, and Texas Instruments.

As a side note, Apple Computer itself was potentially an intrapreneurial venture, as it was an outgrowth of two big corporation employees. Steve Jobs had worked at Atari and Steve Wozniak (Woz) worked at Hewlett Packard part time.

Because of his employment agreement with HP, Wozniak actually had presented his prototype personal computer to an HP executive. Fortunately for Woz and Jobs the HP Executive unilaterally rejected the idea with a comment to the effect of what would ordinary people do with a computer? On hearing the good news of the HP rejection Jobs is reported to have said, Were on our way!

Later, in the early 1980s Steve Jobs and his handpicked group of twenty Apple Computer engineers separated themselves from the other Apple employees to innovatively and intrapreneurially create the Macintosh Computer (the MAC). This intrapreneurial group verged on becoming a cult within Apple Computer.

The MAC group, under Steve Jobs personal leadership, operated totally independently and without interference from anyone at Apple. Some who were familiar with the situation commented that Jobs and his Band of Engineers were allowed to play without adult supervision (hint: CEO Scully and the Apple Board).

This separate Apple intrapreneurship venture would ultimately compete with Apple's mainstay products. This competition was part of what ultimately led Apples CEO John Scully to become displeasured with Jobs. Scully later led the Board fight to fire Steve Jobs (which Scully later admitted was mistake on his part).

Intrapreneurship, sometimes called Corporate Entrepreneurship, comes from the idea of using entrepreneurial ideas, innovation, and start-up business techniques within a large (or medium sized) organization.

To be a successful intrapreneur takes much more than just creativity or an idea. The successful intrapreneur has to be willing to take real risks at sharing and pushing a unique idea. An intrapreneur has to be willing to go into work focused on a mission and be willing to be fired at any moment in defense of their intrapreneurial objective. Steve Jobs clearly demonstrated that virtue.

Intrapreneurship has been called the secret weapon for success. It has been used in high tech firms such as 3M, Anaconda-Ericsson, Apple Computer, AT&T, Corona Data Systems, Data General, DuPont, GE, Genentech, Lockheed, Prime Computer, Sony, Texas Instruments Toyota, and other successful firms!

The term Intrapreneurship has become part of the business lexicon for the last thirty years. The TIME and Newsweek articles were both published in 1985. But three years earlier, Howard Edward Hallers formal academic case study and Masters Thesis documented the term intrapreneurship when he wrote about the Super Mini Computer firm, PR1ME Computer Inc. (1977 to 1980). Hallers intrapreneurship research was published by the University in 1982 (then later published as Hallers second book, Intrapreneurship Success). The Intrapreneuring term was popularized by management consultant Gifford Pinchot III in his book "Intrapreneuring" which was published in 1985.

Over the last three decades both large and small growing companies have experimented with allowing intrapreneurial activity within their organizations. Several successful intrapreneurial ventures come to mind including: Apples "Macintosh," PR1ME Computers "PR1ME Leasing," 3Ms "Post-It Notes," Sonys PlayStation," and the W L Gores "Elixir Guitar Sting Line."

Thanks to Steve Jobs and his teams for a wonderful string of innovative products including, but not limited to: Apple Computer, Mac, iTune, iPad, iPhone, iCloud, Pixar and much more. What a Legacy! Thanks, Steve. You will be missed, but not forgotten.

Mens Winter Coats: How to Improve Your Winter Fashion

Winter have you wearing the same pair of sweatpants or boring jackets over and over again? Unsure how to look good while staying warm?

The good news is you can look great in even the chilliest of seasons, and bundling up in sub-freezing temperatures doesnt have to be complicated.

Weve created this guide of mens winter coats to keep you looking stylish and hot, even when the weather is not.

Whether youre shopping for you or looking for a gift for the man in your life, weve got you covered.

Lets get into it!

Guidelines to Mens Winter Coats

Know Your Budget

Men spend, on average, $85 dollars each month on clothing. Thats about $1,020 annually.

Before investing in your coat, its important to have a general ballpark regarding how much you are willing to spend.

This will help you narrow down stores, types of materials, and brands. After all, if youre only looking to spend about $150, it wouldnt make sense to visit stores with prices hovering over $800, would it?

We commend that before making any clothing decisions, make your budget!

Find Your Fit

This isnt your fathers wardrobe. Mens winter coats have come a long way in terms of style and sizing.

Determine what kind of coat youre looking for. Something slim-fitting? Something for the office? For formal events? For travels and adventure? (and yes, a coat for the Dominican Republic has different purpose than a coat for the Rockies)

Narrowing down your intended use will help you narrow down the appropriate styles and fits for the occasion.

Consider Fur

If you think fur is only for rich people, think again. Were convinced this is the hottest trend of 2017.

This article shows that a proper fur coat is one of the most stylish ways to stay warm and look good doing it.

With different lengths, patterns, and options (yes, faux fur is trendy!), this is one of our favorite kinds of mens winter coats

Dont Forget the Accessories

Mens winter coats are just part of the attire. If its really cold out, you will likely need proper shoes, scarf, and head protection (such as a beanie) for additional protection.

Maybe you already have some of these pieces. Maybe it is important for you to coordinate matching styles or colors.

Either way, these should be taken into consideration when planning out your budget and style.

Rock the Boots

Want a surefire way to look stylish?

Ditch the sneakers and pair your mens winter coats with well-fitted boots. Not only do they define your style and create a sense of professionalism, they are also comfortable and warm!

If youre looking for outdoor protection (and style), consider checking out the endless designs and styles guaranteed to keep you happily active.

Final Thoughts

No matter what the season (or how hot or cold it is), you should never have to compromise looking and feeling good.

If your wardrobe is in need of an update, mens winter coats are a great way to show off your style and personality while keeping you warm. Win-win, right?

Leave it to the Pros and Hire a Roofing Contractor

Leave it to the Pros and Hire a Roofing Contractor

Your roof is your protection. It keeps moisture out of your home. It insulates your home and keeps the heat in. Your roof is something you might not even think about until its leaking around your ears.

But your roof is more important than you might think. And if you want to keep your house intact, you need to take care of your roof.

Sometimes taking care of your roof means replacing it altogether. And replacing your roof means you need to hire a roofing contractor.

But going about hiring a roofing contractor might seem like a daunting task, especially if youve never done it before.

But its really not as hard or daunting as it might at first seem.

So, lets look at several tips on how to find a roofing contractor.

1. Roofing Contractors Boise: Ask Are They Licensed?

In the state of Idaho, its illegal to work as a building contractor and not be licensed by the Idaho Contractors Board, a division of the state of Idaho.

This may seem like common sense, but hucksters exist. And you dont want to be fooled by an illegitimate source.

If you want to ensure that your roof will stand and be up to code, get a licensed roofing contractor.

2. Ask For Their Resume

If you owned a business, you wouldnt hire somebody without asking for a resume or at least a list of references.

Your house is like your personal business. And to keep your assets safe, when you hire somebody to re-do your roof or roof your new house, you want to know theyve done good work in the past.

So, ask for homeowner references. Some homeowners are willing to tell you about the contractors they hired. Follow up with these people to find out how their experience stood up.

Were they satisfied with the work? Did the contractor act like a team player and keep the clients needs in mind the whole time? Were they communicative?

3. Ask About A Roof Warranty

You want someone who will bet their work on a warranty. Backing your work with a guarantee like that spells confidence.

A roof warranty is typically good for one year. But you can sometimes swing a better warranty with some roof contractors.

Also, be aware that there may be two different warranties. The materials warranty and the roofers warranty. Make sure you ask about both.

4. Ask If They Have Insurance

If your roofing contractor has a license, they are likely to have at least property damage insurance. This is a requirement of roofing contractor licensing in Idaho.

But you still want to make sure their insurance hasnt lapsed. Ask to see their proof of insurance. You want your house to be safe against damage from the roofers.

Conclusion:

Now that you have a few things to ask when interviewing roofing contractors in your area, you can safely make your choice.

Make it a priority to hire the very best in the business. Protect your house and protect your investments.

Law of Attraction Love - How to Attract Love

Law of Attraction Love - How to Attract Love

Most people don't realize that the law of attraction works for everything. It's not just about attracting money, or that new job or car, or any other material thing you may want, it's about using it to attract everything you want in your life, including attracting love. Since the law of attraction is always on and you're attracting everything into your life already, why not do so consciously.

Law of Attraction Love

In using the law of attraction to attract love, you must have a clear vision of what you want in your ultimate relationship. We're talking details here, not generalities. And if you don't define exactly what you want, you may end up with a prince that turns into a toad or a witch disguised as a princess.

Attracting The Prince or Princess

The thing to realize about Law of Attraction Love is that you will be attracting to you exactly how you feel about yourself. How you feel about yourself, how much you love yourself---will be mirrored to you by the person you attract. So it is very important that you...

Love Yourself First

Every relationship we have, be they the ones from work, play, our communities or our private lives--all of these relationships reflect back to us the love we give ourselves. They will tell you or not whether you are loving yourself first.

While this may seem selfish, it is imperative if you are going to partner with someone else. If you don't love yourself, how can you love another? If you don't love yourself, how can they love you? When you are in a relationship, you will find that the way that person loves you is a direct reflection of how you feel about yourself.

It really is that simple.

All relationships are mirrors of our own self- love.

So how do we attract love? By loving ourselves first.

This can be an incredibly challenging endeavor for most people. They have no clue where to begin. And it is not an uncommon problem. I find it everywhere I go.

One of the biggest problems in the world today is a lack of self-love. Once you learn to love yourself, you have the ability to be compassionate and caring toward others. Until you love yourself, you don't really have the capacity for compassion. If the lack of self-love is at the core of your life that will be reflected back to you every one you meet and in every thing that you do.

I think that's why people struggle for the best house, the best clothes, the best car, the best body---because there's something missing on the inside.

Having all these material things are great---but if you seek them to fill the hole inside, you'll find that hole is really a black hole that continually consumes everything around you. It affects and warps the energy field of everything in your life.

There's only one thing that fills the black hole within and it is self-love. There's no magic pill you can take that can fix it, but if you pay attention, apply your consciousness and start to love yourself first, watch out, because your life will change for the better.

You'll experience a forward momentum and soon find yourself with your own law of attraction love match.

How to Use Facebook Ads For Real Estate

How to Use Facebook Ads For Real Estate

Real estate agents have so much to gain from Facebook advertisements. Their targeting capabilities are much more precise than those of other social media platforms.

Not only can Facebook ads find your audience through behavioral and demographic targeting, theyre also low in cost.

However, many agents still arent on board with this trend. So, those who are willing to take the risk will gain a competitive advantage over other realtors.

But, as with all marketing plans, you need to have a strategy. Heres how you should utilize Facebook ads for real estate.

Likely to Move

Backed by behavioral data, Facebook now has categories of people who are Likely to Move.

This data comes from online and offline research. It also is generated through partners associated with the platform.

People who have visited real estate sites recently will appear in this category. Those who have posted about first-time house buying will be included, as well.

From there, you can even further segment your audience. You can narrow it down based on age, household income, and geography.

Facebook strategically places adds to accounts that fit their Likely to Move category. This means youre not wasting dollars advertising on people who havent expressed interest in moving.

Say youre in the West with ranches for sale and want to reach interested buyers. You can specifically target those who have looked up ranches in the area.

Dont Only Use Facebook Ads for Real Estate Shoppers

Direct your advertisements to mortgage brokers, too.

Why?

Because targeting mortgage brokers means youre increasing your chance of referrals.

Facebook also allows you to narrow down your target by job title. Simply input mortgage broker into the ads search engine, and voila! Youll reach a whole new audience.

You dont want to spend a great deal of money on those uninterested in buying or selling. But, reaching certain niche audiences can really boost your reputation.

You may also consider advertising to those with the following job titles: processor, closer, and refinance advisor.

Coordinate with Traditional Efforts

Since youre targeting a specific area, you should implement traditional strategies at these places, too.

Sure, much of what comes in through direct mail is tossed in the garbage. But, traditional marketing can be much more effective when combined with digital efforts.

Its no question that consumers require multiple opinions before making a purchase. That means they need to make several types of impressions with your company.

So, if youre spending the money on Facebook ads, you should also coordinate around your standard tactics. Send your post cards and other direct mail ads to tenants in the same area codes.

Its ideal to begin your Facebook efforts just before you send out your direct mail. Then, keep those ads running for some time afterward to maximize exposure.

How to Travel Like a Local in the Dominican Republic

How to Travel Like a Local in the Dominican Republic

We know what kind of traveler you are.

You bring the same appetite to street food as youd bring to an upscale restaurant.

Youd rather find your way to the beach (or museum, shop, restaurant, etc.) yourself than go with a tour.

Youll take a locals advice over a guidebooks every time.

Bottom line: You embrace local flavor. You want to travel like a local.

And youve picked the right place. The Dominican Republic offers some of the friendliest people, best food, most beautiful beaches, widest choice of accommodations and the most diverse range of activities in the Caribbean.

Heres what you need to know to enjoy it all.

When to Go

There are no bad times.

June through December, roughly, is hurricane season, and some resorts close in October. But assuming no hurricanes, temperatures are steady, rooms are discounted and crowds are smaller.

March through July is shoulder season.

Santo Domingo on the southern coast will likely see frequent, brief rain that may continue into October. And days can get breezy. But temperatures are balmy. May and June will see partly cloudy days with an occasional afternoon shower.

Mid-December through February and the week before Easter constitute the high season, meaning higher prices and bigger beach crowds.

(Note that water sports are prohibited throughout the country during the week before Easter.)

What to Pay and Where to Stay

Youll find accommodations in virtually every price range and category, from all-inclusive resorts and the Dominican Republic villas to hostels and budget hotels.

In the budget range, you can get by on about US$60 per person per day, including a hotel room or hostel for one person, meals, and transportation via local motorcycle taxis (motoconchos) and minibusses (guaguas).

In the mid-range, figure an average daily cost of US$110-$150, including first class bus transportation between cities and entertainment including guided tours.

With a luxury budget, average daily costs are typically north of US$200 for a luxury hotel or all-inclusive resort and upscale dining.

The local currency is the Dominican Republic peso, so dont forget your currency conversion calculator.

And dont be alarmed at the 28% service charge typically tacked onto your restaurant bill; it includes a 10% tip (though you can add more).

By the same token, hotels build in a service charge, although a couple of U.S. dollars per night for housekeeping will always be appreciated.

Where to Go and What to Do

Beaches

Most resorts have beaches. But in a country noted for its beaches, you can do a lot better with a bit of traveling.

The calmest waters are those on the south side of the island. The beaches at Punta Cana, La Samana, and Puerto Plata are on the Atlantic and the water is likely to be a bit rougher, especially between December and February.

Specifically, Boca Chica is a gorgeous, white sand beach just a few miles east of Santo Domingo. But its proximity to the city is also its biggest deficit, as Boca Chica tends to be very crowded with families from the city.

Juan Dolio beach a few minutes further east is quieter. And there are plenty of alternatives, including the beach at the small town of Las Terrenas, Cayo Levantado near the Bay of Samana (only accessible by boat), El Rincon beach and for a gorgeous coral reef and great diving Playa Cofresi.

Wherever you go, remember that on Sundays, accessible beaches are likely to be more crowded with locals.

But the Dominican Republic is about a lot more than just beaches.

The Capital

Santo Domingo is the countrys capital and cultural center. It features museums, parks, upscale restaurants and street food, music and nightlife.

The Colonial City is a particularly fascinating historic area.

And Malecon, the seafront promenade, is a great place for a drink at sunset at one of the many hotels, casinos, and restaurants facing the Caribbean.

Inland

Unlike some Caribbean destinations noted for their beaches, the Dominican Republic also features mountains and lush jungle.

Mount Isabel de Torres is notable for its spectacular city views and the cable car ride to the summit. There are also steep hiking trails if youre feeling adventurous.

The Cascades of Damajagua feature a series of pools and waterfalls. The climb to the top is strenuous and you may require assistance. But the payoff is an exhilarating slide back down to the bottom.

Sportfishing is also a major pastime in the Dominican Republic, and multiple operators operate zipline adventures and canopy tours in the jungle.

Other popular activities include diving with whales, swimming with dolphins, kiteboarding, mountain biking and dune buggies.

Finally, if you really want to travel the Dominican Republic like a local, take some time to brush up on your Spanish, the national language.

And whatever you do, dont forget to send us a postcard.

How to Pick The Best Studio Headphones So You Can Rock Out!

How to Pick The Best Studio Headphones So You Can Rock Out!

Nothing brings you closer to your favorite tunes than a quality set of headphones. But, if youre looking to make your own music, your everyday pair of headphones wont do.

Instead, youll want to invest in a pair of studio headphones.

Studio headphones are designed with accuracy as the main goal. They offer a flat frequency response. This means youll hear recordings for what they really are.

Ready to rock out with your own musical creations? Dont settle for less than the best when buying headphones!

Keep reading for tips to choosing the best studio headphones.

1. Do Your Research

As with any purchase, before choosing a pair of studio headphones, take some time to do some research. Check out top names in the industry. Sony, Bose, and AKG are well-known brands.

To make your research efforts easier, check out headphone review websites. A reliable website for reviews is Headphonesaddict.

If this is your first headphone purchase, be on the lookout for the top rated pair. The best studio headphones will have raving reviews from customers.

2. Find Your Type

With studio headphones, there are two main types. You can choose between open or closed-back headphones. Closed-back headphones are the most common, but the right type for you will depend on your needs.

Open-back Headphones

These headphones allow airflow through the earcups. The air flow creates more open and spacious sounds.

Open-back headphones are ideal for:

Mixing and mastering
Natural and accurate sounds

Closed-back Headphones

These headphones are ideal for recording tracks.

With closed-back headphones, the earcups are sealed. This means that there is no noise in or out. So, theres no worry about the back track in your headphones leaking into the microphone.

Are you performing with other singers? Have a live guitarist in the studio with you?

If so, use closed-back headphones so that you can focus on your performance. Just hearing whats in your headphone mix is key for a quality performance.

3. Determine Your Fit

Most studio headphones are over-ear or on-ear models. Over-ear models have earcups that fit over the entire ear. On-ear models have earpads.

The best studio headphones for you will depend on your personal preferences.

Looking for a compact pair of headphones? Go with a pair of on-ear.

If comfort is important to you, over-ear headphones are prized for being easy to wear. These headphones are also better at blocking out sounds.

4. Try Them Out

There are some items that you cant purchase without trying. When buying a pair of studio headphones, head to a local store and try on a few pair.

When testing them out, consider these questions:

Which pair was most comfortable?
Which pair offered the sound youre looking for?
Which ones fit best within your price range?

The best studio headphones will make you fall in love with music all over again.

How to Leverage the Power of Scarcity Marketing

How to Leverage the Power of Scarcity Marketing

You probably have seen this form of marketing before but may not have even recognized it.

Limited edition! Buy yours before it runs out!.

This concept is referred to as scarcity marketing.

When did tastefully, it can be a great way to get customers excited. When not executed properly, it can appear manipulative and deceiving.

Thats why were here to help. Read on to learn the ins and outs of scarcity marketing.

What is Scarcity Marketing?

Essentially, scarcity marketing boils down to the consumers fear of shortage. This, in turn, will lead them to buy based on the fact they believe the product will run out.

There is a broad spectrum of marketing tactics that fall under this category.

It can be as simple as Amazon denoting that there are 7 items left of a certain product.

Or, in more extreme examples, it can be a company broadcasting that their product will be gone tomorrow so buy today!.

As you can see, there is a huge difference between the two. The first example is a simple way of letting customers know how much inventory is left.

The second is ambiguous and is just flat out annoying to customers.

The best way to use scarcity marketing is in its most simple form. When you can discreetly find ways to emphasize shortage, youll make the most of this tactic.

Good Ways to Use Scarcity Marketing

Order Soon

As mentioned above, Amazon does a great job demonstrating this approach. They make shortage as simple as We have X number of products left- Order Soon.

That order soon tacked on at the end is a very subtle, yet creative method to get us thinking.

Its not pushy or intrusive. Its certainly not flashy. Its about as small as an actual Amazon product description itself.

However, it gives customers that extra push to make a purchase.

Transparency

A key to scarcity marketing is transparency. If youre going to sell the shortage, you need to be as honest about it as possible.

Thats why promotions with claims such as We will sell out tomorrow so get yours right now! dont do so well. We usually dont trust that type of marketing, leading us to not trust that company.

You can demonstrate your shortage in much more definitive ways. For example, on your website, you can add a feature that will show how many products are left.

You can take this one step further if you sell clothing or other items that run in different sizes. Try adding how many items of each size are left.

Social Media

Social media is a fantastic way to create urgency because it too is instantaneous. You put out a tweet- customers come looking.

If you plan to use Twitter, Facebook or Instagram to sell your product, be as interesting as possible. Dont create long descriptions and dont use the hard were running out sell.

Simply post an image, add a witty description and tack on Limited Edition in the caption. You could also say how much inventory is left if you feel its appropriate.

How To Craft Helpful Posts for a Product Review Blog

How To Craft Helpful Posts for a Product Review Blog

Writing product reviews is one of those tasks that seems easy until you try it. Its tricky to balance the right amount of information with a healthy dose of opinion.

At times, crafting a helpful product review blog post may seem so tough that it isnt even worth it!

But well let you in on a secret people want to hear what you have to say. In fact, research suggests that most consumers turn to product reviews to help make purchasing decisions.

Thats a whole lot of power, but it comes with a caveat: your posts need to be helpful. Not sure how to craft helpful product review blog posts? Not to worry, weve got your back.

Here are a few helpful tips to get you started on writing product reviews that your audience will love.

Write For Your Audience

Of course, you cant create the next big blog without first having an audience. Finding your audience can be pretty tricky, especially if youre reviewing products that other, bigger blogs review.

However, that doesnt mean finding your audience is impossible. It just means that youll need to find your niche.

As a reviewer, you have a unique set of experiences and opinions which is reflected in your posts. Even if you have a similar opinion to those of the other reviewers, no two people see a product in the exact same way.

Think about what you have to offer and who your blog should appeal to. Informed consumers? Uninformed consumers? A little bit of everyone?

Theres no wrong answer here. But before you review your first product, you will need to know who youre writing for.

Write With A Purpose

While writing a review isnt always a walk in the park, it does have a pretty simple formula.

Introduce the product
Introduce features about said product
State opinion
Conclusion

Thats it. Really, writing helpful product review blog posts doesnt need to be like pulling teeth. But the trick is to write with purpose.

William Faulkner once said that writers need to kill their darlings. This means that writers cant be precious with their content.

Reviews need to be short and to the point with as little filler as possible.

Product Review Blog Posts Should Be Skimmable

Even if you craft a great review, theres no guarantee that audiences will read the entire thing. People simply dont have the time in todays busy world.

Accordingly, youll need to adjust your writing style. Write in simple, approachable sentences that arent too long or complicated.

Additionally, ensure that your posts are skimmable. This means that a reader can scroll through your post and still get the general point of the review.

First, always use headers for the various sections of your review. That way if a user is looking for specific information, he or she can find it quickly.

Next, use bold text to accentuate the reviews main points. This isnt always necessary, but it stands out and grabs the readers attention.

Finally, include a final review score or summary. If a reader doesnt have time to read the entire review, theyll likely head straight to the conclusion. Make sure they still get the gist of your opinion.

Learn Linking Lessons

Whether youre a reviews blogger or a general blogger, every post should include at least a few links. Linking is a great way to establish an authors credibility, as well as boost a sites SEO ranking.

However, linking can be a little tricky, especially if youre new to the blogging world. First and foremost, always include a link to the product youre discussing.

Say youre looking at different TV options. When discussing a specific product, say an aerial antenna, you can write something like learn more at this link and link to the product.

Show Related Articles

Want to increase the time visitors spend on your site? The solution is simple: implement a sidebar.

This sidebar should include information about the website, as well as a list of related articles. Now, this is going to require a bit of tagging and indexing on your part, but its worth it.

Break reviews up into categories, and tag them accordingly before posting. That way if a user is interested in a similar product, he or she wont need to leave your site to read a review.

Variety Is The Spice Of Life

Writing a product review blog post is a great way to get some eyes to your site. But did you know that video tends to get more eyeballs than most written articles?

Todays audiences are always on the go. As a result, it may be easier to watch a quick three-minute video instead of reading an entire review.

Plan for this by condensing your review into a short-form video. Youll already have your script outline, just film the product in use.

Read Feedback

Most content creators hate reading feedback, which is understandable. It may feel like the audience is attacking something you worked hard on.

However, there are lessons to be learned in most user comments. Make sure to take these suggestions to heart.

For instance, if a user felt that a review wasnt thorough enough, you can better outline product features in the future. Or if a video seemed too dark, youll know to adjust lighting for your next review.

A quick note: it isnt necessary to listen to every users opinion. Some people get a kick out of harassing others. However, for every troll, there are at least two great opinions that you can learn from.

Disclose Deals

Last but not least, always make sure to disclose deals. Readers are already skeptical of most advertisements, but you can earn their trust by staying honest.

If a business sent you a product for review, let your audience know up front. It doesnt need to change your overall opinion of the product, but it should be disclosed.

If youre not sure where to start, check the FTCs helpful Endorsement Guide.

Final Thoughts On Crafting Helpful Product Review Blog Posts

As a reviewer, its important to keep each and every one of these tips in mind. Youre facing a lot of competition, after all, but stay honest and true to your mission. Before you know it youll get more traffic than you couldve ever imagined!

Be sure to keep checking ArticleCity for more helpful tips on blogging, marketing, and more.

How To Become A Dominant Basketball Scorer

How To Become A Dominant Basketball Scorer

When your young there are two things every kid wants to do. One is dunk and the other is to score. Becoming a scoring machine takes basically one thing and some added creativity and there you have a scoring machine, it's as simple as that.
So what is this one thing?

To become a scoring machine you must have no weaknesses this means you can do everything on the basketball floor. You see it's quite simple, if you have no weaknesses then how can the defense stop you? This the key to scoring more points in any game, no matter who your up against. If you look at some of the best players in the game today, they can do everything on the basketball floor. They can not only do everything, but they can do everyrthing well. However, not all these players were like this from the start. Each player had to work on their weak parts of their games. They knew once the weak point became their strength then they were on to something. I will explain why you need to be a complete player and have no weak parts in your game.

If you're a player that can only go right, well you have just created an avenue where the defense can exploit. A scorer may have an off night, but that off night usually has nothing to do with the defense, if you are a true scoring machine. A Scoring machine is a player who has mastered the fundamentals and have put countless hours in the gym.

If you were looking for some super formula in this post, well sorry my friend there are no secrets to this, it's just hard work. You might be saying...well I know of some guys who have some weaknesses, but can score a lot. Yea, of course you are going to run into guys that are good scores and have weaknesses. Let me tell you this, sooner or later they are going to meet one good defender or one good defensive team that just totally shuts them down. Then people are going to say what happen to him tonight?

I'm sure you have seen this or heard this, if you have played the game long enough. Well, what happened was he was not a scoring machine and he has weakness in his game, that needs to be worked on. I hope you are getting the point by now, on what it take to become a true scorer.

In order to become a scoring machine you must put in the time in at the gym. You have to be a student of the game try to learn something new about the game everyday. You have to master the fundamentals and drill them into your brain. Most of all you have to have NO WEAKNESSES. This is how you become a scorer. One of the most important thing when trying to become a scorer is to master shooting. Really foucs on your basktball shooting form. Another thing you can do is spend a lot more times in your weak areas of the game.

How Does Payment Work for Online Content Writing

How Does Payment Work for Online Content Writing

?

Are you looking for ways to earn more money? Do you have a natural talent and passion for writing?

Writing content online is becoming an increasingly popular option for making money. Whether its freelance or full-time work, theres an opportunity for you, if youre willing to put in the effort.

In this article, well provide some useful information regarding how payment works for online content writing.

The Importance of Having a Contract

First and foremost, when doing any kind of freelance work, especially online content writing, having a contract is essential. Why? Without having an agreement in writing between you and your client, issues can easily arise.

For example, you could end up not getting paid for work that youve completed! And no one likes to work for free.

Creating Invoices

Once you have finalized your contract and actually completed an assignment for your client, you might find yourself wondering exactly how you are going to go about getting paid. Before you can make any money, however, youll need to create an invoice for any job(s) youve completed.

There are several different ways to go about doing this. You could create a simple document in Word, Google Docs, or a similar program. This will outline the project that you have completed, the time you spent working on it, the date, and most importantly, the total amount that is due.

Alternatively, you could use a system to create your invoice. This will automate the process somewhat, saving you some precious time and energy. Youll be able to spend time on more important things like actually writing!

Below are some invoicing systems you could try:

Pay Stub Creator
Harvest
Freshbooks

It may take some time, but you will eventually learn what works best for you.

Getting Paid for Your Online Content Writing

Depending on how you are finding work, there are two popular methods of getting paid for your writing.

PayPal

If you are primarily finding work through content mills, PayPal will likely become your best friend and quickly. Its a popular option for a reason. For one, its a well-known website that is secure. It is trusted and used by many.

Two, its easy! After creating an account with your email address, youll be prompted to link your PayPal account to your personal bank account. And youre all set!

Any funds you receive will be deposited directly into your PayPal account. From there, you have two options:

You can either leave the money in your PayPal account and use it to do things such as shop online, or you can transfer it to your personal or business bank account.

Checks

Believe it or not, paper checks are still a popular method of payment for some companies. One advantage of this is that there is a delay from when the check is cut and mailed, to when the funds are actually deducted. If the company is strapped for cash, checks allow them to stay above water that much longer.

One Final Note

If you are trying your hand at doing some online content writing and find that you are struggling, take a look at our tips on how to beat writers block for good! So, conquer your writers block and get to writing theres money to be made!

Gym Wear 5 Things Every Man Needs to Have

Gym Wear 5 Things Every Man Needs to Have

Gym Wear: 5 Things Every Man Needs to Have

You might not give much thought to what you wear to the gym. Its probably the one of those ratty old college or band t-shirts that fill your drawers, and a pair of sweats or elastic-waist shorts.

Even if you carefully choose the clothing youll wear to work or on a date, this is the gym were talking about. Who cares what you put on?

It turns out that you should care. Heres why and how to choose clothes that will work to your advantage when you work out.

5 Ways To Work Out in Style

1. Get A Good Fit While Getting Fit

Dont choose baggy clothes to work out in. They wont make your body look bigger. Boxy shirts and saggy sweatpants will actually impede you at the gym.

In addition to possibly getting snagged or caught in the machinery, clothes that are too big wont let you see how your body is moving. This means itll be harder to monitor your form.

Shirts for working out should have no more than two to three inches of excess fabric at the waist; choose shorts that hit about two inches above the knee. Check out some of the great options from Generation Iron.

2. Choose the Right Fabric

A lot of men relegate their old t-shirts, the ones that have holes under the arms or are just too ratty for everyday wear, to the workout drawer. Experts say thats a mistake, however. Cotton t-shirts will soak up your sweat, making it heavy and uncomfortable to wear.

Dedicated performance wear is a better choice. Wicking fabric wont leave you feeling wet, sweaty, and clammy. Nor will you leave puddles behind on the bench after youre done pressing which your fellow gym-goers will appreciate.

3. Opt for More Clothes Than Holes

We get it; youve worked hard for those pecs and lats, and you naturally want to show them off. Any type of fishnet shirt or barely-there tank top, however, is going to mark you as that guy. Which guy? The one that women roll their eyes at.

These days, the gym is more social than ever before. You could run into your boss, a potential client, or that woman youve been eyeing on Tinder. So opt for low-key, not flashy, clothing.

4. The Right Footwear

It ought to go without saying that you should wear proper athletic footwear, but next time you hit up the gym, look down. You might be surprised at the number of folks you see in Vibrams, sandals, even boots and flip-flops!

If youre not especially into running or cycling, choose a pair of cross-trainers that are comfortable and supportive.

5. Choose Complementary Outerwear

Unless you always shower at the gym, its best to invest in a dedicated jacket or coat to throw on when you leave. Why?

Putting on your good wool pea coat on top of your sweaty workout clothes will eventually lead to the pea coat smelling like you did wind sprints in it. In Georgia. In August.

Buy yourself a performance jacket thats warm enough to ward off the chill when you leave the gym. Bonus youll have something for hiking and outdoor workouts, too.

Ready To Get Your Sweat On?

Hopefully, weve inspired you to put away those old Led Zeppelin Ts, invest in some stylish, high-performance workout wear, and go get your sets in!

Family Bonding, Why Its Important

Family Bonding, Why Its Important

Family bonding is very important for a number of reasons. One reason is that today, both parents often work and the kids are involved in many different activities such as sports, clubs and hanging out with friends. The old concepts of what a family should be has been thrown out the window. It used to be that one parent stayed home, the children saw their parents before and after school, and the whole family sat down to dinner EVERY night, talking about their day, talking to each other about what is going on in their lives. Today, you would be lucky if you see each other more than an hour a day and family dinner hardly ever happens at all.

To keep in touch with your family, whether it is knowing what activities your kids are involved in, parents telling their children about their day, etc., it is important that you as a family spend some quality time together. Sure, you may have busy schedules, but you all can sit down at least once a week to touch base, be together, and let each other know there is love in the family still. All too often, no one talks to others in the family or spends any time together and it seems a bunch of strangers are living together. Do you really want your kids growing up this way, and passing these bad family traits down to their family and kids?

Family time doesnt have to be a chore, but it does have to be scheduled and you all have to make a commitment to be there every time. If you as a parent tell you friends that you want to spend more time with your family, they better understand, or they arent really the friends you thought them to be. While your kids may buck at the idea at first, if they know it is a fun time to spend together, they will be more and more eager to make sure they are there too.

Speaking of fun things to do as a family, there are so many different things that are fun and involving that you wouldnt be able to do them all in a year. These fun activities can be arts and crafts, going out to a movie, or staying in and playing games together. Many people are into video games, and thats okay, but so many of these games involve guns and violence that this isnt a good thing to help with family bonding. There are many different computer flash games that are geared towards families and getting together. One of these is Beyblade Games. You may have seen Beyblade on television; its a cartoon about kids battling with spinning robots. There are games that are the same as this online from a number of websites.

If you think that Beyblade Games are something you and your family might want to get into, try it as a computer game first. If your family seems to like this, take it a step further. Beyblade is also a real live action game that your whole family will enjoy. You can buy several different battle arenas, as well as a wide assortment of different battle tops. These work the same as youd see on the video game, but in real life. This is just one of many different examples of making family time a fun bonding experience.

Voice search function

Voice searches are more convenient and many people today have embraced them, especially when trying to multitask. Just the mere mention of the word menopause will give any woman some jitters. For members of the female gender, this stage in their lives is as scary as nightly visits from Freddie Kruger. You too would be scared if you knew that you will be haunted by the symptoms of menopause, which include hormonal changes, night sweats, hot flashes, tension headaches, mood swings, dry skin, lowered sex drive, vaginal dryness, anxiety, tension, and depression.

Kidding aside, menopause is a terrible stage to be in. However, you should not lose hope because you can fight some of the irritating menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweating and anxiety and depression by simply drinking enough water.

Menopause And Dehydration

Not many are aware that hormonal changes experienced during menopause can also bring about some form of dehydration, a condition in which the body does not have enough fluids to perform its normal functions. It is important to note that oxygen and nutrients cannot be properly circulated in different parts of the body if you are dehydrated.

A decline in a woman's estrogen level speeds up the aging process. Aside from more wrinkles, and dry and sagging skin, the aging process also reduces the body's ability to conserve water. Thus, a huge percentage of the fluids that is ingested come out through urine and sweat.

More water is actually lost by women during perimenopause and menopause because of hot flashes and night sweating. Since these symptoms, which can last from a couple of seconds to about 30 minutes, bring about profuse sweating, menopausal women who do not have the habit of drinking the right amount of water or other fluids are really more susceptible to getting dehydrated.

Some menopausal symptoms, such as tension headaches, mood swings, anxiety, and depression can also be exacerbated by dehydration. Since the brain and other body parts are not getting enough oxygen and nutrients when you are dehydrated, there is really a huge tendency to be easily agitated and irritable.

So how does water help women with menopause?

Prevents Drying Of Skin

Because of the reduction in the amount of estrogen in the body, the skin of a woman with menopause starts to dry, sag and wrinkle. You can actually prevent your skin from drying just by drinking enough water because water helps keep your skin moisturized.

Minimizes Irritability And Anxiety

Water helps in calming people when they are angry, anxious, tensed, nervous and irritable. In movies you might have noticed that someone usually offers some water to those who are in grief, crying, excited or surprised.

Furthermore, drinking plenty of water prevents dehydration. As mentioned earlier, dehydration can exacerbate the emotional symptoms of menopausal women.

Hot flashes And Night Sweats

Women who drank at least eight glasses of water a day have fewer or lesser attacks of hot flashes. Moreover, drinking a glass of cool water when you feel that you are about to have a hot flash attack could help a lot in preventing a full blast strike. The cool water will help balance the temperature in your body. Some people even splash cool water on their face in order to ease the symptom.

Drinking water is also helpful in easing the onset of night sweating. Before you go to bed, make sure that you have a glass of water nearby so that anytime you feel that you are going to have an attack, you can immediately stop it by drinking water.

To ease the other symptoms of menopause, there are many products in the market that can help. Just be sure to look for something that is natural and won't have side effects.

One product that can help ease your menopause symptoms is Zalestra. For more information, visit www.zalestra.com.

Are LED Lights Good for Growing Cannabis

Are LED Lights Good for Growing Cannabis

?

Feeling the drain from growing cannabis?

Cannabis farming accounts for 1% of the total domestic energy usage in the US. And that means big bills for growers. But knowledge of the medical benefits of cannabis is booming.

Thats why growers are looking at new ways to cut costs and keep expanding. Growing cannabis with LED lighting is a popular revolution set to change the game. But is it any good?

Read on below, and well take a look at how LEDs compare to traditional methods.

LEDs? HPS?

Before we dive in, lets take a look at what sets LEDs and HPS apart.

HPS stands for high-pressure sodium. Its the traditional growing light. HPS operates by passing an electrical current through a space filled with inert xenon gas, along with a mixed gas of sodium and mercury.

HPS output emphasizes the yellow-through-red areas of the spectrum, but it also outputs light at all wavelengths. Excess energy is emitted as heat, so HPS bulbs run at high temperatures.

HPS lights are usually combined with MH lights. Metal halide lights do a similar job to HPS, but growers prefer them for the plants vegetative stage prior to flowering. They then switch to HPS for the flowering stage.

LEDs are the new kid. LED stands for light-emitting diode. Although LED bulbs have been around for a long time, recent advances in LED technology have taken them from niche applications to widespread use.

LED bulbs dont use gas to produce light. Their light comes from a solid semiconductor when electrons move through it. In practice, this means LEDs are very efficient at what they do and produce very little waste heat.

Do LEDs Work for Growing?

The answer is a resounding yes!

Advances in LED technology have allowed LEDs to take on most of the functions of incandescent bulbs. Theyre used in everything from street lighting to car headlights. Growers have found that LEDs now work as well, if not better, for cultivating indoor plants.

The cannabis industry is rapidly switching over to growing cannabis with LED lighting. Higher yields, lower running costs, and greener growing are all on the lips of growers.

What Are the Advantages?

So weve answered whether you can use LEDs for growing. But what you really want to know is whether theyre a better option than HPS and MS lighting.

Below, were going to take a look at the advantages of growing with LEDs.

Less Wastage

HPS bulbs consume incredible amounts of power. Theyre around 5 times brighter than your average reading light, drawing on 1,000 watts of power.

HPS energy usage is so extreme that growing cannabis accounts for 2% of all energy use in the city of Denver, where cannabis is legal.

LED lights only produce light in the required wavelength for growing. Compared to full-spectrum HPS, they kick out less light and heat overall. That equates to savings for growers and a sigh of relief for the energy grid. If more states legalize cannabis growing, the demands placed on the grid could be unsustainable.

Cooling

If you remember your physics schooling, youll know that machines consuming fuel give off heat as a by-product. The same goes for light bulbs.

Weve mentioned HPS are power-hungry. All that energy they consume means they give off plenty of heat, too.

But thats bad news for growers. Cannabis plants are sensitive to stress. Growers work hard to keep their plants at a stable temperature. When using HPS bulbs, that means cranking up the AC and other cooling technology consuming even more energy.

LED bulbs are taking over from sodium because theyre so energy-efficient. Growers using LEDs can turn down the AC and add that to their savings.

Higher Yields

With the lower energy levels involved in LEDs, you might suspect a lower cannabis yield.

Studies have shown the opposite is true. LEDs are still new technology, which colors public perception. But modern LEDs can yield up to 1.5 grams per watt. Thats while drawing less energy than HPS!

LED lights are still improving, which could see those yields climb even higher by the time LED lights are the universal standard.

Lifespan

What goods a more efficient system if youre always replacing the bulbs?

Luckily, thats not a concern for LED bulbs. HPS lights have a decent lifespan of just over a year. But LEDs smash that with lifespans ranging from 5-13.7 years!

So along with other efficiency gains, LED lighting also stands the test of time.

Flexibility

LEDs low heat output gives you more options for their installation.

For instance, you can grow in more limited setups, such as beneath low ceilings. Or you can install LEDs closer to the plants for maximum exposure. Traditional HPS lighting would fry the plant, but growing cannabis with LED lighting can open up your options.

Environmental Impact

Many of us try to take some extra responsibility in our lives for our environmental impact.

For growers, this can be a hand-wringer. The carbon footprint and waste from HPS lighting are huge. Until now, growers havent had many alternatives.

Growers concerned with their impact are turning toward LED lighting as a perfect solution. The factors weve discussed above, from better efficiency through to less required cooling, all mean a great reduction in the carbon footprint of cannabis growing.

Learn How to Do It

Now you know its possible and youve discovered the advantages, its time to learn how to do it.

Luckily, theres a wealth of information online to teach you the differences between growing with HPS and growing with LEDs. This guide, for instance, covers everything youll need to know.

Here are a few things you need to consider:

Physical setup you can keep LEDs closer to the plants
Choosing the right spectrum
Heating if youre in a colder climate
Watering you might need to do less of it!

Start Growing Cannabis With LED Lighting

The evidence is pretty conclusive: growing cannabis with LED lighting is the future of the industry. Forward-thinking growers are already switching over. Initial costs should be eclipsed by the savings over time.

An Itchy Member Can Result from Diabetes

An Itchy Member Can Result from Diabetes

One of the (many) reasons a guy should pay attention to his male organ health is that sometimes, a manhood health issue may be a sign of a more general problem. By the same token, a general health issue may have an effect on member health, even when the two dont seem related. Such is the case with an itchy member and diabetes.
In some cases, an itchy member may let a man know he might have diabetes. And a man with diabetes may find that it results in an itchy member condition. Whichever comes first - the itchy member or the diabetes - its important to be aware that the two can be connected.

Not always diabetes

Just because a man has an itchy member, it does not mean he has diabetes. There are numerous other causes of an itchy member, including skin conditions such as eczema; use of a too-strong skin cleanser or laundry detergent; scabies or midsection lice; an allergic reaction to a latex protective covering; or herpes. But sometimes that itchiness is related to a diabetic condition.

How?

Just how might diabetes be behind that need to scratch the manhood? Well, the hallmark of diabetes is an inability to properly maintain appropriate blood sugar levels. Sugar levels can spike or plummet, and either one of these can cause considerable problems for a person.

Often a person with diabetes - especially undiagnosed and therefore unmanaged diabetes - will experience frequent periods in which their blood sugar is simply too high. Studies have shown that high blood sugar encourages the production of yeast infections in general. And yeast infections prefer a warm, moist, dark place in which to grow - which is a perfect description of most mens midsections. Hidden away beneath a layer of trousers and underwear, the manhood presents an ideal breeding ground for yeast. The high blood sugar associated with diabetes just makes it that much more likely that the yeast will populate and infect the area.

And, to complete the picture, a yeast infection is known for the extreme itchiness it creates. So diabetes can make a yeast infection more likely, which can lead to an itchy member.

Other symptoms

Men who are not diagnosed with diabetes may wonder what else they should look for in addition to an itchy member. Some other common symptoms of diabetes include:

- Increased thirst

- Increased appetite (sometimes even shortly after eating)

- Need to urinate frequently

- Dry mouth

- Blurry vision

- Tiredness

- Nausea

- Numbness in the extremities (hands or feet)

Treatment

Diabetes is a serious illness, so if a man suspects he may have it, he should definitely consult with a doctor and get a diagnosis. Management involves trying to keep blood sugar and insulin levels balanced. Lifestyle changes are usually required; for example, a person needs to be careful about what he eats, how much he eats and when he eats. Getting appropriate exercise and keeping weight down is also necessary.

In addition, most people with diabetes must monitor their blood sugar level and take medications when necessary. In some cases medications can be taken orally, but in other cases insulin must be injected into the body.

For most men, an itchy member is likely due to something other than diabetes. In such cases, regularly applying a first class male organ health crme (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) often helps to keep the itchiness at bay. By using a crme with a combination of hydrators (such as vitamin E and Shea butter), the manhood skin stays moisturized, which often helps prevent itching. Its also important that the crme contains a potent antioxidant (such as alpha lipoic acid), which can keep the skin healthy and less prone to itching by fighting free radicals and the damage they cause.

ADHD and PTSD What You Need to Know

ADHD and PTSD What You Need to Know

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder that can be very difficult to manage - especially for adults with ADHD. As the name suggests, this cluster of symptoms is the result of experiencing a traumatic event. A person with PTSD may be easily triggered by a smell, sound, sight or other sensation associated with a conscious or unconscious element of a traumatic incident, reactivating the psychological response.

Often people with PTSD are aware of their traumas and associated triggers. These people may recognize when they are reenacting the emotional response. This is the case with people who have been in car accidents and become unable to drive (or ride) in a car without distress; crime victims who are terrified to go near a bank or other scene of the crime; sexual abuse or rape victims who become physically sick when they smell certain cologne or try to eat certain foods, like hot dogs or sausage.

For people who don't remember the trauma, these reactions are usually confusing and frightening. People may spend years in therapy attempting to figure out why they have such extreme reactions to seemingly neutral objects.

What about those who have unnamed trauma? Or, those who are unaware of their triggers and may not recognize what is happening when they slip into that 'psychological space' in their minds. Below is a list of some more commonly reported PTSD reactions.

Often the symptoms begin as feeling a bit dazed and numb - things seem a bit hazy or unclear - that can continue for several days or weeks. Dissociation is a common response to trauma, not unlike the times ones mind just disappears with ADHD.
The confusion and dreaminess is usually followed by or accompanied with anxiety, often the generalized (free-floating) anxiety that feels like edginess, being easily startled and jumpy for no apparent reason.
People usually have problems sleeping or relaxing. Hyper-vigilance, that constant sense of urgency, being on guard or 'waiting for the other shoe to drop', ramps up the anxiety to the point of paranoia at times. This can lead to sleep deprivation, which amplifies the hyper-vigilance and many other problems.
Isolation is pretty common for people who are hyper-vigilant or paranoid. In the extreme, people become afraid to go about their daily lives; in less extreme cases, they may avoid certain areas or trigger points and try to continue with their daily routine. If left untreated, this can lead to problems at work or school, in relationships or other facets of daily living.
Symptoms of depression may also follow: Frequent crying, feeling 'flat' (aka blah) or sad, lack of energy, loss of interest in things you usually enjoy, irritability or agitation, problems with concentration, changes in eating and sleep patterns, for some, thoughts of suicide or death and feeling guilty or worthless.

This is important for the thousands who are living with PTSD and unaware of this cycle. Either PTSD or ADHD could be misdiagnosed for the other. More often, they occur simultaneously, inflaming symptoms that look a lot alike. The pattern may be repeated at infrequent intervals, or happen very rarely.

Often PTSD goes undiagnosed, unless a medical or mental health professional takes an extensive personal history, asking the right questions in just the right way. Many times the reporter does not disclose this information. Unfortunately, unless it is a fairly obvious trauma, people often forget to include the event when giving their history - or they withhold the information because they don't want to talk about it. More likely, it will surface in an on-going therapeutic relationship - often when one seeks therapy after being triggered.

People react differently to events. Some people are traumatized by seemingly benign events that other people experience and shake off easily. Others survive horrific events that seem traumatic without long-lasting psychological damage. If you havent read Mans Search for Meaning, you should amazing story of a concentration camp survivor.

Another good example of how fickle PTSD affects people is war veterans. Many come home scarred for life, reliving their experiences through nightmares, flashbacks and extreme psychological distress that impair every area of their lives. Others who experienced the same event seem able to compartmentalize those atrocities and suffer few, if any, long-term problems. There is no accounting for resilience.

In a study that compared girls with ADHD with girls without ADHD, higher rates of abuse were found in the ADHD population. Of the girls with ADHD, 14.3 percent had been abused. Of the girls without ADHD, 4.5 percent had been abused. The study was published by Allison M. Briscoe-Smith and Stephen P. Hinshaw in a 2006 edition of Child Abuse and Neglect.
http://www.livestrong.com/article/221175-add-child-abuse/#ixzz1WRIaxgex

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) show a high degree of comorbidity in traumatized children. Two hypotheses may help explain this relationship: children with ADHD are at higher risk for trauma due to their impulsivity, dangerous behaviors, and parents who may have a genetic predisposition for impairment of their own impulse control; and hyperarousal induced by severe trauma and manifested by hypervigilance and poor concentration may impair attention to create an ADHD-like syndrome. Co-morbidity of Attention Deficit Disorder and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder.

As you see, there is a lot of overlap in symptoms and a reported high incidence of abuse in kids with ADD/ADHD.PTSD can exacerbate your ADHD symptoms - and create anxiety with new symptoms EACH TIME THE EVENT IS TRIGGERED IN YOUR PRESENT LIFE.

The important thing to remember is that PTSD doesn't just go away - it has to be managed, much like ADHD. Learning more about your triggers and how to cope with the specific psychological symptoms you experience is the key to successfully living with PTSD. Some people have success with EMDR treatment for PTSD, but many do not respond to it. TO date, there is no magic bullet that cures PTSD to my knowledge.

My best advice - if you have periods of time when you experience any of the items in the information above, talk to your medical or mental health provider. Be certain he/she is aware of any potential trauma history in your past, whether it is abuse, a car accident, witnessing domestic violence or being humiliated in first grade by a careless teacher. These events revisit you, but they don't have to ruin your life.
